XConnect reports rise in VoIP traffic

XConnect reports rise in VoIP trafficXConnect - a provider of enhanced interconnection services - saw remarkable growth in 2009 due to the rapid rate of adoption of VoIP services.

According to a TMCnet report, XConnect's revenues have doubled over the years 2008-9, showing a rise of 96 per cent.

In tandem with this revenue bump the company has seen its IP traffic swell by 81 per cent while adding 63 new service provider customers to its database.

In a press statement, chief executive Eli Katz said that the "rapid uptake of next-generation IP communications is driving our growth".

An analyst from TeleGeography agreed, adding: "Consumers are also embracing VoIP services."

The same analyst noted that last year 31 per cent of Western European households subscribed to a fixed-line VoIP phone service, showing the extent to which users are becoming comfortable with VoIP.

It has recently been argued within the industry that the growth in overall unified communications is so extreme that it may help drive the upgrading of both internet and voice networks.

For now VoIP, and VoIP traffic, is expected to keep on rising.
