Returns from IP telephony solutions are continuing to rise and are expected to more than double over the next three years, In-Stat has said.

The increase in revenues will be driven by individual VoIP solutions, demand for which will come from increasingly scattered and nomadic workers, according to the market intelligence company.

A recent report from In-Stat also found that one-third of enterprises that have adopted VoIP phones have had to slow down any further adoption due to the economic downturn.

However, just under one-third said there had been no change in their plans for further VoIP deployment.

The report also showed that 79 per cent of US businesses will have invested in VoIP by 2013. This figure stood at 42 per cent at the end of 2009.

David Lemelin, analyst at In-Stat, said VoIP adopters have "a good understanding of the cost savings associated with VoIP".

Many companies using VoIP have been able to employ the technology to save them money during the financial crisis, despite reduced budgets, Mr Lemelin added.

Unified communications, including IP telephony solutions, are being seen as a vital business tool more and more by IT planners, Nemertes Research recently said.
