O2 has removed the set-up fees for its mobilebroadband and free laptop packages, making it easier than ever for users to create their own VoIP solutions.

Now a laptop, with mobile broadband, can be ordered online for as little as £25 a month, broadening the range of people who can take advantage and create their own personal IP telephony solutions.

Laptops with mobile broadband allow users the freedom of true roaming, thanks to their internet connection coming through carrier provision, rather than omnipresent Wi-Fi.

By opting for a mobile broadband contract users can make their office portable, allowing them to deploy and use VoIP hardware when travelling.

With O2's offer, users will have connection speeds of up to 3.6Mbps (Megabits per second), allowing a user to use an IP telephony solution in tandem with a webcam, as long as the video stream is compressed.

Because of its broad sector appeal the scheme could see take-up by both small businesses and home users.

It is expected that as the plans outlined in the 'Digital Britain' report take shape, stopgap internet connectivity solutions, such as the recent enlargement of the mobile broadband sector, will rule the market.
