Premise-based IP PBX systems are now taking the place of traditional PBX systems installed by businesses since the 80s, TMCnet has said.

By utilising VoIP solutions, premise-based IP PBX systems cut costs and offer greater capability than the technology it is replacing, according to the communications and technology community.

Premise-based IP telephony solutions can also offer improved integration with existing business networks and data communications, writes David Sims, contributing editor at TMCnet.

Businesses are migrating to IP-based PBX systems from traditional PBX systems despite the recession due to the desire for "highly flexible interoperable network infrastructures," TechNavio recently said.

According to a report from the market intelligence company, the cost savings, ability to work with other systems, adaptability, and ease of implementation of IP PBX systems has seen more and more enterprises adopt them.

The increase in enhanced services and unified communications applications take up has led to the rapid growth of the enterprise VoIP equipment industry, despite the current economic downturn.

The VoIP equipment sector is the fastest growing segment of the global enterprise network equipment market, according to TechNavio.
