Thomson has launched a new piece of VoIP hardware. The device - a wireless router, which incorporates measures to cope with high VoIP traffic - expands the company's portfolio in the networking and connectivity sector.

Along with aiding the user in running a wireless, VoIP-capable network, the device also comes with a raft of green credentials.

Its power consumption is effective enough for it to consume 20 per cent less power than what is currently recommended in the Code of Conduct on Energy Consumption of Broadband Equipment (version three).

The product was launched at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, this week. It expands the company's portfolio in the router sector and allows for greater flexibility within the small to medium-sized enterprise IT stack.

"VoIP functionality is a requirement in every market around the world," said Georges Laplanche, senior vice president in the connect division at Thomson.

He said the router "delivers all of the key functionality at a remarkable price" and he hopes its introduction means Thomson "can serve more customers."

Thomson expects the triple-play hub to be a useful resource for both companies and home users alike.
