Internet banking could be used by more Britons to improve the way they handle their finances, while it could also help tackle fraud, says an expert website.

According to Moneymagpie.com, internet banking enables people to check their accounts as often as they like and at their convenience, which means they are more likely to spot any fraudulent activity in a timely manner.

Many businesses already rely on faster broadband services to operate effectively and while internet banking can offer greater convenience than visiting the high street, VoIP solutions can also be used to communicate more cheaply.

Earlier this year the government announced plans to deliver a connection speed of two megabits per second to every UK home by 2012 in a move that could encourage more people to bank online.

Technologies such as Wi-Fi networks and even satellite systems are being considered as ways to provide broadband to more remote communities where laying fibre optic cabling is less commercially viable.
