Supplying high-speed broadband services should be considered more important in the UK than making sure everyone has access to a connection, says myvideorights.com.

According to the digital video syndication company, the nature of much of the content currently available online means that high-speed services are needed in order to access much of it, but this could in turn stimulate the economy.

High-speed broadband can help minimise the time it takes to download content from the internet, while it can also help applications such as VoIP solutions run more effectively.

Peter Bazalgette, non-executive director at myvideorights.com, said: "Because of the state of our content industry and the state of our content in general, it's more important to have fast broadband than it is to have universal broadband."

He added that he does not think supplying high-speed broadband services to every household is a feasible idea.

Seven per cent more UK households gained access to the internet through the course of this year, according to figures from Eurostat.
