Following extensive high-speed broadband trials conducted in schools in Hull, the technology could soon be made available to other users throughout the city.

The city plans to utilise grants from the government and Europe to roll out the technology further through renewed relationships with various local partners, reports the Yorkshire Post.

Hull has been working on its digital agenda for nearly ten years and although initial plans have not been updated in the intervening years, this could change with the recent publication of the Digital Britain report.

Mark Jones, head of economic development and regeneration for Hull council, told the paper: "There is a consensus in the city that digital connectivity, and the infrastructure that supports it, is a key issued that needs to be addressed."

High-speed broadband services can help speed up download times and improve the efficiency of VoIP hardware.

Major internet service provider BT announced earlier this year it would be investing £1.5 billion in the development of next-generation networks.
