Bundle deals that combine broadband, subscription television and mobile contracts have become more popular this year with five per cent more people opting for them, new figures suggest.

According to research from broadband regulator Ofcom, 35 per cent of customers now choose bundle deals as savings of up to £140 are accessible by buying everything together rather than opting to get each service from a different supplier.

Broadband is becoming more integral to many peoples' lives, with faster connection speeds enabling the more efficient use of VoIP solutions and delivering shorter download times.

The research also suggests that British consumers have access to better telecommunications deals than people in many parts of Europe.

Broadband services are generally available at low costs as a result of intense market competition and consumer demand for faster speeds at reduced prices.

In related news the chancellor, Alistair Darling, has authorised a £6-a-year tax to be imposed on every UK home with a fixed telephone line in order to fund the development of next-generation networks.
