'Neediest not-spots' should be prioritised under universal connectivity plansPosted 2 years 2 months ago in: Broadband ![]() Telappliant News: 2009-12-08 Rate this article: The government in Westminster has been called upon to ensure that rural areas most in need of faster broadband services are prioritised as universal connectivity is rolled out by 2012. Lord Roberts of Llandudno reiterated to ministers that connecting rural communities remains a huge challenge and asked that this not be used as a reason to deal with the issue after the UK's main towns and cities have been taken care of, reports the Daily Post. He went on to say that other issues besides commercial viability should be considered in order to make sure everyone has access to the same broadband services. According to the paper, Lord Roberts told ministers: "I appreciate that it is important that broadband expansion is carried out in a manner that is commercially viable, but we must not lose sight of the fact that accountants must not have the last word." Rural communities across the UK voiced their discontent earlier this year when the Westminster government's Digital Britain report suggested countryside towns and villages may not immediately benefit from universal connectivity.
