Connection speeds of up to 48 megabits per second (Mbps) are on offer from internet service provider (ISP) ADSL24 using unbundled ADSL2+ technology.

Customers could access the faster connections as a result of the ISP linking two telephone lines that each provides speeds of up to 24Mbps, in the process doubling the potential rate of the service, reports ISPreview.co.uk.

Although the speeds on offer are much higher than those offered by many of ADSL24's rivals, the costs involved are likely to restrict its appeal primarily to business customers.

Typically, installation reaches £250 and a price of £120 is attached to a specialist Comtrend 5631 router, while the service itself costs over £150 a month.

Customers get features such as 24/7 monitoring with email alerts, four static IPs and bandwidth usage tracking, while users could benefit from much faster download speeds and more efficient use of VoIP solutions.

Virgin Media recently launched a 50Mbps service based on fibre optic technology and plans to provide even faster speeds in the coming years.
