Comfortable home offices could be considered by more employees now that home-working is becoming more widespread throughout the UK.

Figures from the TUC reveal that 3.5 million Britons currently work from home, due to developments in mobilebroadband technology and cheaper communications facilitated by VoIP hardware and other types of digital equipment, reports the Telegraph

As a result, more people are developing home offices at the bottom of the garden, often with integrated showers and kitchens alongside the work spaces, as they make a conscious attempt to separate home and work, if only by a few metres.

Home-worker Dave Jarvis told the paper: "It helps create a complete distinction between work and home. It also saves the wasted time of a daily commute, not to mention city congestion charges and commercial office rental costs."

Garden offices can now generally be developed without having to first attain planning permission and they can add value to a property while offering a cheaper solution to a housing extension.

Many broadband routers now have wireless features that frequently extend coverage to the garden.
