More people are looking to save money by seeking bundled packages that include broadband, television and home phone services, new figures from Ofcom reveal.

The telecommunications watchdog found there has been a year-on-year increase of more than ten per cent in the number of BSkyB customers buying bundled packages in the third quarter of this year, while the increase for Virgin Media customers stands at five per cent.

Broadband connections can help save money on communications by using software such as instant messenger services and VoIP solutions.

In addition, the Ofcom research revealed that 80 per cent of television sets in Britain are now equipped to access digital signals.

The existing analogue television signal is due to be switched off in stages over the next few years and the government also plans to deliver broadband connection speeds of at least two megabits per second to every UK home by the time the London Olympics begins in 2012.
