Two-thirds of IT managers in the UK have called for faster broadband to be delivered as a number one infrastructural priority, according to a new survey.

Figures from the British Computer Society (BCS) revealed many IT managers want to see faster broadband speeds available throughout the UK, although many senior personnel would prefer to see an investment shift to IT skills rather than technology, reports ComputerWorldUK.com.

Training employees in the use of VoIP solutions and other forms of technology could enable more people to operate from home or adopt other flexible modes of working.

David Clarke, chief executive at the BCS, said: "To be successful, we need a high-performing IT education system and a population with the IT skills to be productive, empowered citizens."

He added that a focus on education is critical to boosting the level of economic recovery in the UK over the coming years.

Remote working could become more common throughout the UK if another swine flu outbreak affects the country during the winter months.
