A high-speed broadband infrastructure could be put in place across Cornwall by the region's council, it has emerged.

In an interview with Business Cornwall magazine, chief executive of Cornwall council Kevin Lavery said that initial plans are in place to develop a superfast broadband infrastructure which could help to improve business efficiency.

"We are in the procurement process now, so by the end of the year we will announce a preferred bidder to develop a superfast broadband network in Cornwall that will be the best in the UK," Mr Lavery told the magazine.

He added that up to a gigabyte of speed could be achieved, noting that this could help to make the county a "great place" for internet business.

However, ISP review asks whether there has been some confusion over gigabits and gigabytes, questioning whether such a speed, which is usually found in central internet hubs, will be rolled out across Cornwall.
