The ongoing development of mobile VoIP could help to transform the mobile landscape, it has been claimed.

New research from In-Stat suggests that mobile VoIP could help lead to the development of numerous applications that will alter the mobile scene.

"As user habits are being shaped by rich online communication experiences, mobile carriers' control over devices and data applications is waning," said Frank Dickson, analyst at In-Stat.

The organisation's research suggests that the Asia-Pacific region will continue to become the world's largest regional market by 2013.

Ongoing development of mobile VoIP has been possible thanks to the increasing penetration of Wi-Fi into mobile devices, the research company claimed.

Such developments may even further the progress of unified communications, as different applications using voice and data can converge.

Earlier this month, Andrew Doyle from GN Netcom told Call Centre Helper that the ongoing growth of unified communications is helping to ensure the development of VoIP for business.
