A study conducted by market research firm Dell'Oro found that despite the recession, the market for voice technology continued to expand. "Softswitch IP business trunk, including SIP trunk, licence shipments increased 33 per cent during the quarter and business voice or IP Centrex licence shipments on voice application servers grew 85 per cent," said Greg Collins, vice-president at Dell'Oro group. In total, the carrier IP telephony market increased by seven per cent in the second quarter of the year, to $737 million, the Dell'Oro report found. Using a VoIP service within business may bring a number of benefits, including reduced expenditure on phone bills, and efficiency improvements through a transition towards unified communications, whereby voice and data communication methods can converge.
