A specialist firm has cut £100 from the price of installing its satellite broadband service, which could encourage more customers to buy the technology.

Avonline offers a range of satellite broadband services under the Tooway brand, with speeds of 3.6 megabits per second now available for the reduced initial installation fee of £599. Usage limits differ slightly between the various packages available, reports Top 10 Broadband.

The firm claims interest has increased for the product in recent months, as satellite technology offers one way for rural communities to access faster broadband speeds and use application such as VoIP solutions.

Craig Roberts, manager of Avonline's broadband services, told the website: "Avonline has been working hard to bring reliable satellite broadband access to thousands of customers located in rural locations and not spots or with a slow or unreliable ADSL service."

Satellite broadband remains prohibitively expensive for many people, although prices could fall further if take-up shows a steady increase.

Wireless networking is being considered by the government as another way of delivering broadband in rural communities.
