Designed to help deliver high-speed broadband throughout South Yorkshire, the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the Digital Region scheme.

The organisation said the programme will benefit around 3,000 workers in Doncaster's creative and digital industries (CDI) and could finally allow small and medium-sized businesses in the region to flourish, reports the Star.

A Creative and Digital Doncaster Focus Group has been created to add input to the strategy and discuss the various issues on behalf of the sector.

Daniel Fell, head of policy for the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce, told the paper: "[This is] a major opportunity to seize the digital region concept in Doncaster and give Doncaster businesses in the CDI sector a competitive edge over other towns."

High-speed broadband could allow businesses to communicate with each other more efficiently, while also providing better use of VoIP hardware.

BT is rolling out high-speed broadband across the country and has also announced it will be installing Wi-Fi facilities in dozens of holiday resorts throughout the UK.
