People holidaying in the UK this year could find they can use VoIP solutions away from home as BT is installing Wi-Fi at a range of British resorts.

With the recession making more people aware of over-spending, a greater number are staying in the UK this year rather than travelling abroad and BT Openzone has spotted an opportunity to provide them with Wi-Fi access.

Three Pontin's sites and nearly 80 camping and caravanning sites throughout the UK will be among the places having Wi-Fi installed to provide holidaymakers with broadband access.

Chris Bruce, general manager of BT Openzone, said: "Having the option to get online and stay entertained will provide a useful plan B if the weather does its worst, and being able to look up tourist information and hunt out local gems will make for a better trip."

Existing BT broadband customers will be able to use the service as part of their existing contract, while rivals' customers can buy vouchers if they want to take advantage.

BT is investing £1.5 billion in next-generation connectivity across the UK.
