Mobile broadband better than fixed-line in some areasPosted 2 years 10 months ago in: Broadband ![]() Telappliant News: 2009-07-15 Rate this article: Web users in some of the most affluent areas of the UK might get faster broadband connection speeds by opting for mobile technology, according to a report. Although average national broadband speeds hover between about 3.6 and 4.3 megabits per second (Mbps), affluent communities in places such as Marlow and Henley-on-Thames are getting speeds of only about 0.5Mbps, research from Top 10 Broadband reveals. These areas may boast famous residents like Oasis musician Liam Gallagher and pop superstar Robbie Williams, but switching to a mobilebroadband connection might help them enjoy better use of VoIP solutions and general web browsing. Alex Buttle, marketing director of Top 10 Broadband, said: "With mobilebroadband offering a readily available solution, there's no reason that those affected should miss out for a second longer." Satellite technology is one method being used to speed up broadband services in the countryside and to connect rural residents who live greater distances from telephone exchanges.
