Passengers are now able to use VoIP solutions and a range of additional internet applications through a Wi-Fi network in Heathrow's SkyTeam lounge.

The development, provided by BT for the lounge in Terminal Four, means that passengers waiting there for flights will now be able to work online and utilise any VoIP hardware they may have, something that could appeal to a large number of air travellers.

Wi-Fi services will be offered free of charge to reflect the growing importance of broadband connectivity in everyday business life.

Francesca Freeland, lead for SkyTeam Heathrow Airport team said: "The premium lounge was designed to offer customers a superior experience that meets their individual needs and with complimentary Wi-Fi internet access passengers can stay connected while awaiting departure."

SkyTeam intends to create a lounge environment where businesspeople can utilise all the resources they need to catch up on office work in the most convenient way possible.

BT recently announced a £1.5 billion investment to develop next-generation broadband networks throughout the UK.
