Survey reveals divide in broadband speed satisfaction

Just over half of broadband customers are happy with their connection speed, according to a new survey from comparison website uSwitch.com.

More than 6.7 million people - representing 45 per cent of those surveyed - said they want a faster service and only three per cent of customers who bought an eight megabit-per-second (Mbps) service actually get that speed.

Having faster connection speeds can facilitate the use of VoIP hardware and shorten the time it takes to download media content from the internet.

James Glynn, a communications expert at uSwitch.com, said: "The government and providers need to step up a gear and set out a bold new blueprint for Britain's future."

The government recently revealed plans to ensure every UK home has a 2Mbps broadband connection within the next four years.

In related news, recent research from Epitiro has shown that average mobilebroadband connection speeds in the UK reach 0.9Mbps.
