Verizon's VoIP provision has been given the backing of Infonetics Research after the firm came top of the latest poll.

Infonetics undertook a major survey in the US into the provision of VoIP for businesses across the country and found Verizon's financial stability, together with a large subscriber base, put it on top in the poll.

Although the study did not look at things like customer service and the quality of service, it was intended to discover which companies are currently market leaders in providing VoIP solutions to businesses.

Verizon's international footprint makes it well-positioned to service large multinational companies and the author of the report, Infonetics analyst Diane Myers, suggested Verizon should be doing more to capitalise on its global position to expand the access to VoIP technology.

"Large operators typically try to be all things to all people, but a lot of the time they're better served by deciding to focus on their target market," she explained.

Earlier this year, a survey by Telegeography urged the VoIP industry to do more to push its products into the European market. The survey found VoIP uptake across the continent was patchy.
