VoIP solutions are used by people aged 18-35 in the UK and Ireland, the majority of whom use their PCs as their primary communication platform, a new study has revealed.

The UCD Graduate School of Business in Ireland conducted the research for Vennetics, a company that provides mobile operators with PC-based solutions, and found that nearly half of those surveyed have made a call on their PC using VoIP hardware.

A range of additional features available through VoIP solutions on laptops tends to provide more of an incentive for people when deciding whether to use the computer or their phone.

In addition, whereas less than ten per cent said they never use video messaging on their laptops, a far greater 70 per cent said they never use it on their mobile phones.

Many people said they tend to favour their laptop for video messaging or watching content as the sound quality is better and the screen is much bigger.

Top 10 Broadband recently reported that community-wide networks carried using Wi-Fi technology could prove the future of broadband in the UK.
