A new 24 megabits-per-second (Mbps) web service from IDNet could help VoIP solutions run more smoothly and attract new customers to the internet service provider.

Depending on how far people signing up to the service live from their nearest telephone exchange, they will get a maximum upstream of 1.4 Mb, in addition to the 24 Mbps download speed, which is far above average UK figures that fall between two and four Mbps.

In addition, the company is providing the improved service by using ADSL2+ technology, which offers low latency and additional bandwidth without incurring extra costs to the consumer.

The company said: "We have also doubled the peak download allowance on some [connections] and added generous off-peak allowances too, effectively at least tripling the overall download allowances."

As a result of these changes, consumers may get improved use of VoIP solutions, as well as opportunities to download more video clips and music.

In related VoIP news, the technology's growing popularity has been hinted at through a discussion on the Oprah Winfrey show, according to voip-news.com.
