A university in Texas will soon be enjoying the benefits of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications technology, it has emerged.

The Texas AM University has agreed a $20 million (£13.74 million) deal to implement a major new voice and data network, as well as all cabling and managed services.

As part of the three-year deal with Verizon Communications, the educational establishment will also access the numerous benefits of VoIP, as well as audio conferencing.

This will enable the facility to access converged communications where voice and data networks are unified, bringing benefits to security and cost base.

In related news, small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) in Texas have been enjoying the benefits of VoIP after Austin-based service provider Starview introduced session initiation protocol into its suite of business-focused IP communications solutions.

This has meant that Texan SMBs can now experience the efficiency and cost cutting benefits of converged voice and data communications.
