Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) brings various benefits to businesses, but its deployment must be handled correctly, experts suggest.

Writing on TMCnet, Brendan Read described VoIP as "perhaps one of the most important, game-changing technologies on the market".

This includes benefits to operating and capital expenditure, as well as greater flexibility to embrace aspects such as homeworking, but this first requires an effective roll-out.

Contributing to the article, Zultys vice president of sales and marketing Pierre Kerbage offered some important advice on how to get the best out of deployments.

Guidance included properly analysing existing infrastructure, ensuring correct implementation of network switches and auditing all cable implementations.

Mr Kerbage concluded that these pieces of advice among others do not cost a fortune, but are just "basic items that any good network infrastructure today should have".

In related news, Blue Coat Systems regional sales director Mike Hemes recently told Securitypark.co.uk that companies considering the deployment of VoIP should first evaluate their existing infrastructure.
