British educational establishments have been enjoying the benefits of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), it has emerged.

Teachers at various colleges and schools throughout the UK are utilising the numerous advantages of the technology to stay connected with parents and colleagues.

Facilities so far to adopt the technology include Coleg Glan Hafren in Cardiff, the Richard Huish sixth form college in Somerset and the five-site Trafford College in Manchester.

VoIP telephones have been placed in various locations throughout these establishments, while every member of staff has their own specific number meaning they can then log-in to the phones at any time.

Meanwhile, the organisations are also experiencing benefits to their cost base from the introduction of unified communications.

In other news, a report by IBISWorld recently predicted that the VoIP industry will survive and thrive during the economic downturn.

The study placed the VoIP industry at the top of a fastest growing industries list and projected that revenues could grow by 20.1 per cent during 2009.
