European Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) users are much more concerned with issues of privacy than those in America, reports suggest.

According to a posting on Voice of VOIPSA, VoIP equipment manufacturers in Europe are more likely to offer security applications in their services.

The website claims that there are currently a "slew of providers" offering aspects of encryption in their telephony and VoIP products.

"A very interesting observation so far is that European VoIP equipment manufacturers are putting readily available encryption schemes into their offerings - this to a bigger extent than their American counterparts," the article said.

"This may have to do with what the market wants. It seems that in Europe we are much more concerned about privacy than elsewhere."

Stephanie Viscusi, TMCnet.com assignment desk editor, recently said the global economic downturn could lead more businesses to deploy VoIP as a way to save money.
