Car maker Ford has announced a new in-car computer system that will enable owners to access broadband from their vehicles.

Drivers of Ford F-150, E-Series, Super Duty and Transit Connect trucks will be able to take advantage of the Ford Work Solutions package, which will allow them to use computer software and go online.

Rod Hamlin, from software installation firm Opera, commented: "This solution will allow Ford truck and van owners to maintain a virtual work environment with access to all of the important files, information and applications they need."

The Work Solutions device slots into the space where a car radio would usually be fitted and utilises a 6.5-inch touch-screen in addition to many other features.

An onboard Bluetooth battery-powered mobile inkjet printer is also available to complete the in-car IT and communications system.

Last year, car maker Chrysler said that it plans to introduce broadband facilities into its UK-made models.
