A new network card has been launched to unlock the benefits of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for video game players.

The Killer Xeno from Bigfoot Networks is aimed at improving communications between computer gamers via VoIP networks.

Capitalising on the growing trend for online gaming, the card enables voice chat between teams and opposing players to enhance the experience.

It also includes a built-in firewall alongside VoIP chat and bandwidth control functions, while the company claims it is compatible with "all games".

This is available in Ultra and Pro versions with the latter to be sold as an option via the Alienware system.

Frank Azor, Alienware senior vice president and general manager, said that gaming over the internet is "rapidly growing".

"Alienware works to stay ahead of the curve and Bigfoot Networks helps us do this," he explained.

"The Bigfoot Networks' Killer Xeno gives us the proven technology needed to guarantee customers' ultimate online gaming experience."

According to research by Gartner, VoIP has injected new energy into the legacy communication method of faxing through the use of Fax over Internet Protocol (FoIP).
