Broadband television viewing grows by 10%Posted 1 year 5 months ago in: Broadband ![]() Telappliant News: 2009-03-19 Rate this article: The viewing of television programmes and videos via broadband in the UK has grown by ten per cent during the past 12 months, new research reveals. According to a report by ComScore, there are now 29.6 million people watching video content online, with ages typically running from 15 and upwards. Sites under the Google umbrella proved the most popular by attracting 23.7 million viewers, which was an increase of 14 per cent on the previous year. Some 99 per cent of this was powered by the ongoing popularity of video sharing website YouTube, which was purchased by Google in 2006. However, the BBC also proved popular with its iPlayer service helping the corporation come second with 6.8 million viewers. This was followed by Microsoft websites with 4.3 million, Facebook with 3.6 million and sites in the Yahoo! suite with three million viewers. Communications minister Lord Carter recently hinted that the BBC may have a role to play in the future of high-speed broadband in the UK.
