A new broadband geography website has been launched to offer a mapping service for internet speeds and take-up in all areas of the UK.

Point Topic has collaborated with Gavurin to extract data from the broadband layer at local authority level to give an ongoing picture of broadband speeds in Britain.

The breakdown is split into three categories: high-speed heaven at 8Mbps, average access at 2Mbps to 8Mbps and slowband at anything below 2Mbps.

The worst places for fast broadband availability are currently Watford, Oxford, York and Lincoln, while Central London, Belfast, Glasgow and Liverpool were found to be the best.

Oliver Johnson, chief executive at Point Topic, said: "We're bringing it all together as part of our broadband geography service."

"Not only will clients be able to access the datasets we've been publishing over the last few years and the new refinements we're bringing online but the addition of a straightforward and intuitive interface will help broaden access across their organisations," he added.

According to research by the Office for National Statistics, 19 out of 20 internet connections in the UK are now via broadband.
