The new super-fast broadband network implemented at the Wembley City development is "five years ahead of the market," it has been claimed.

Under the Velocity1 service, residents in the area around England's national football stadium can access high-speed broadband of speeds up to 100Mbps.

Real estate firm Quintain is offering the service in bundles of 8Mbps, 16Mbps and 32Mbps, alongside the option to upgrade to full speed for 30-minute periods at the cost of £1.

James Saunders, the company's managing director, claimed to the Wembley and Kingsbury Times that the broadband service is "five years ahead of the market".

Mr Saunders explained that the service has the potential to reach speeds as high as 1,000Mbps if there was a market for this in future.

"People are using iPlayer a lot, but this is very slow," Mr Saunders said.

"More Mbps makes the watching smoother so it is like watching TV rather than the internet and means more people can use the internet at the same time without it slowing down."

Virgin Media recently announced plans to upgrade million of its 2Mbps broadband customers to a 10Mbps service, thanks to a network upgrade.
