A new start up business in London has benefitted from the flexibility and cost effectiveness of a VoIP-enabled network.

After taking voluntary redundancy from her former employer, Jenny Boyce set up Vertigo Communications to provide telecoms services to firms in the publishing sector.

She told the Independent that a VoIP-enabled network ensured that her new business was able to operate effectively from the initial base in the attic of her London home.

"For our landline, I use our broadband connection using VoIP. This is transportable, so by reconnecting the VoIP box I can move my whole office anywhere in the world," Ms Boyce explained.

She continued to explain that the communications solution has helped to significantly improve the quality of her work and life balance.

"I earn more money and my quality of life is vastly improved. I've even started to learn the piano. There's no way I could have done this when I commuted," she added.

According to research by TNS, most employees are concerned with securing increased pay and a more favourable work-life balance than being made redundant.
