An American consultancy has revealed the benefits of switching from a legacy telephone network to a VoIP-enabled system.

Benefit Consultants Group (BCG) recently introduced a hosted VoIP solution into their business, which has immediately shown its benefits.

It has introduced a greater sense of flexibility to operations as well as provided vital cover during power outages and other unforeseen occurrences.

Robert Paglione, chief executive officer at BCG, told computerworld.com: "We were pretty upset with our [former] phone system in that there was a lot of downtime and the time it took to get someone to repair it and bring it back up was getting longer."

"Someone had to come here to fix [the telephone network] and when they'd come they'd point fingers at someone else. In our business we can't have down time," he added.

By opting for a hosted VoIP solution, BCG also saved in excess of $9,000 (£6,221) in phone bills last year and around $80,000 in hardware costs.

According to Tmcnet.com, VoIP-enabled technology recently made an appearance on the Oscar-nominated movie Slumdog Millionaire.
