Companies wishing to introduce voice and video over IP should seriously consider managing both on the same platform, an expert suggests.

Speaking to NetworkWorld.com, Psytechnics marketing vice-president Joe Frost said that VoIP and IPTV should be incorporated on the same network in order to share common benefits.

He explained: "As the enterprise moves more toward video to communicate, managing video call quality becomes an issue."

"They want to use the same platform to manage VoIP and video, but excellent VoIP call quality is already managed on another system."

Mr Frost advised that businesses should unify MOS (Mean Opinion Score) for both voice and video infrastructure, which will rate the signal quality for each service.

Companies introducing an IP MOS would experience the benefits of a consolidated approach to voice and video call quality, he added.

Tmcnet.com recently indicated that strong attendance at the Internet Telephony Conference & Expo in early February demonstrated that there is plenty of health in the VoIP market.
