British Telecom (BT) is offering a free WiFi hotspot with a new broadband package aimed at the small and medium enterprise (SME) market.

In an effort to improve flexibility and adaptability of communications solutions, the telecoms giant will enable the wireless hotspot for companies at no extra charge to the broadband service.

BT Hub owners can also purchase Openzone vouchers in order to give these to customers for free or sell them on as a premium service option.

Around 20,000 existing BT clients have already been allocated firmware to enable a hotspot in their business locations and a further 200,000 are expected to follow suit by the end of March.

Bill Murphy, managing director of BT, said: "Offering Wi-Fi adds value and is good customer service."

"It can also allow businesses to make incremental revenue. The service is helping our customers stay online and keep productive during these times," he added.

Delta and American Airlines have recently launched a new in-flight WiFi service in collaboration with telecoms provider Aircell.
