A new adaptor has been launched which is designed to deliver cheaper calls and also make people "more comfortable with VoIP technology".

Aimed at residential and small business customers, Taiwan-based D-Link has created the VoIP adaptor which allows users to make digital calls with traditional analogue telephone equipment.

The technology switches between the fixed telephony network and VoIP infrastructure to maintain service continuity even when faced with power or internet shortages.

Maurice Famularo, marketing director for D-Link, explained that the adaptor "provides everything that home or small business users need to make them comfortable with VoIP technology".

"It is affordable, less than half the cost of a new VoIP phone because it works with existing telephones," Mr Famularo explained.

"It is safe with the lifeline phone port you can use a regular phone line as an emergency backup. And it is smooth, providing the latest technology to ensure that calls are of a high quality."

D-Link has also implemented an environmentally-friendly wireless network which features innovative power saving technology.
