The increased mobility of the modern workforce has created renewed demand for unified communication technologies such as VoIP, a leading organisation claims.

A report compiled by analysts Frost & Sullivan has indicated that employees are increasingly making the most of unified communications, such as VoIP, virtual private networks (VPN) and videoconferencing.

This has also led to the increasing popularity of communications hardware, including enterprise headsets and soft-phones.

Alaa Saayed, Frost & Sullivan research analyst, said: "The need for enhanced communications is resulting in the creation of a series of communication tools and devices that are helping the employee to efficiently perform his/her job at any location and on the go."

"These business end-points include unified communications clients integrating multiple communication applications, such as messaging, presence, and conferencing and mobile soft-clients," he added.

Writing on ITWorld.com, Evengelyze founder Joe Schurman pointed out that we are now at "the tipping point within voice and unified communications technology".
