Significant cost savings derived from a VoIP network deployment remains the "most attractive feature" of the technology for businesses, a leading group claims.

According to research conducted by Networkworld.com, even though VoIP boasts a wide variety of benefits over the legacy telephone network, it is the ability to reduce expenditure which remains the most valuable to customers.

This is largely because a VoIP network can consistently deliver significant cost savings following the initial outlay of upgrading the telephony system.

"Significant net savings can result from managing only one network and not needing to sustain a legacy telephony system in an increasingly digital and data-centred world," the report explained.

"For the enterprise, VoIP reduces cost for equipment, lines, manpower, and maintenance."

Networkworld.com also stated that a VoIP deployment has the capacity to reduce the workload of IT support teams due the unification of voice and data networks.
