The top ten broadband annoyances have been revealed by a broadband comparison website.

BroadbandChoices.co.uk surveyed its customers to find out their main irritations and discovered that not getting the advertised speed is the biggest peeve.

The company's product director, Michael Phillips, recommended finding out the real speed with a speed tester, or purchasing a wireless router signal booster, which can provide a stronger signal.

Other big complaints included download limits, ISPs dithering over sending a MAC code when a customer wants to change provider and having to purchase a landline when buying broadband ADSL.

"Despite the recent technological revolution and improved internet access through high-speed broadband, it seems that there are still a number of problems that need to be rectified before consumers will get the service they pay for," said Mr Phillips.

He added that many of the problems stem from customers not being properly informed about the terms of their contract and the rights they have.

Consumers "should arm themselves with as much knowledge as possible" to optimise their service, he concluded.
