More and more small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are seeing the potential of switching to VoIP solutions, an expert has said.

Samuel Schneider, marketing director at Bandwidth.com, believes that smaller businesses can make savings of over 50 per cent on their telephony costs with VoIP solutions.

To do this, they should switch from either cable or DSL to a dedicated IP circuit, which should then have voice traffic run over it.

However, he does think that many SMEs are becoming aware of this.

"More businesses are realising the value and savings of switching their voice and data needs over to an all-IP solution," he said.

Last month, office and IT suppliers CMYK Digital Solutions announced it was taking advantage of the cost-savings inherent in VoIP.

David Crosby, the company's service operations director, said that his firm's cost savings were more than £45,000 and he expected payback in less than three years for the cost of installing the network.
