Using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) VoIP solutions offer various benefits to small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), according to an expert.

Eric Eckman, Broadvox director of business development, writes on TMCnet that deploying SIP VoIP solutions "offers several tangible opportunities to increase profits".

He explains that it reduced costs per minute compared with TDM delivery, which provides an "almost immediate" return on investment.

Mr Eckman also points out that using SIP means that the cost of communicating between a business's headquarters and its other offices, suppliers and so on is "virtually eliminated".

"SMBs realise cost savings and profit margin increases while reducing man hours and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of their communications by implementing SIP trunking," he concludes.

Another expert recently claimed that SIP can ease a VoIP PBX deployment in a call centre.

Genesys chief executive Paul Segre explained that one of the advantages of SIP is that it has a generic interface, allowing every application to be interoperable.
