Telecommunications provider 3 Mobile has launched a new mobile broadband router.

The company believes that the new technology will be an improvement on current mobile broadband technology, which was previously required to plug directly into a computer.

However, the new 3 Mobile router does not require a landline and can be shared among a number of computers in a business or home.

Edd Dawson of Broadband.co.uk explained that this helps maintain the cost advantage of not having a fixed line, as there is no need to buy extra dongles and mobile contracts.

He said: "3 Mobile have solved this problem with the launch of their new mobile broadband wireless router.

"This router allows a single mobile broadband connection to be shared among all the computers in a house just like with a wireless broadband connection."

Meanwhile, operators are moving to make mobile internet more secure as use of the medium becomes more widespread among businesses.

Vodafone recently announced a new Vodafone Enhanced Services for Windows mobile email that offers a personal firewall that can be configured to individual devices and users.
