Small businesses want their VoIP solutions to be easy to install and easy to use, according to an industry commentator.

Adam Stone, writing on VoIPPlanet.com, explains that companies with 20 or fewer employees can find the idea of upgrading their telecommunications systems "apprehensive" because "solutions are often complex and typically require some degree of technical expertise to deploy".

As these smaller companies are unlikely to have this expertise in-house they will have to bring it in from a third-party, which can lead to prohibitive costs, which could possibly negate the cost-saving benefits of employing VoIP solutions.

"Small businesses are understandably apt to shy away from the prospect of hiring pricey tech support to install and maintain complex phone systems," he said.

This can work the other way too, with companies providing VoIP solutions unwilling to devote time to small firms that will offer a poor return in terms of fees for the amount of time installing their system.
