Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) was a popular topic at the first meeting of the Broadband Forum, formerly the DSL Forum.

Internet Protocol v6, fibre architecture and IPTV over DSL were also big talking points at the meeting, held in Stockholm, Sweden.

The future of FMC was debated by a panel discussion between 3GPP, the WiMAX Forum and the Broadband Forum that looked at how to drive common management and architecture specifications to support the growth of wireless broadband.

"Our main priority is to provide workable network, access and management solutions and standards that answer real world problems," said the Broadband Forum chairman and president, George Dobrowski.

He continued: "Our next big challenge, FMC, is driving a lot of new work and industry collaboration and we will do our part to ensure wireline providers are equipped for this next wave of broadband expansion."

Meanwhile, Sky has been voted the best overall broadband provider in the UK in a survey by BroadbandChoices and Point Topic of the seven largest providers in the country.
