Telecoms 'leader' in greenPosted 3 years 8 months ago in: Networking hardware ![]() Telappliant News: 2008-09-17 Rate this article: The telecom industry is a leader in "green IT" and is two or three years ahead of other sectors, according to IT PRO. Chris Green, the editor of the magazine, pointed out that those in the telecoms industry were the first to buy blade servers, "which allow them to reduce not only the size of the servers in use, but the number of servers they're using and again the power consumption". And improvements have also been made in little things like providing bills online as opposed to creating and wasting pages of paper. He also said that a trend was appearing in the mobile industry which will halt the creation of countless unwanted phones. "Rather than allowing many users to update their mobile phone for the sake of upgrading, if your phone is perfectly good, and in many cases it will be, they will sell you a cracking deal that just involves you getting a new SIM card," he said. The Mobile Operators Association also claims that it is using slim-line versions of their masts with smaller head frames, which can be disguised to blend in with their surroundings.
