YO! Sushi, the Japanese-style sushi restaurant chain, has chosen an IP telephony solution to replace its current circuit switched system.

The company currently has 35 restaurants which will all get the IP telephony solution and the company has plans to rollout 15 more outlets in the next year.

YO! Sushi is famous for its conveyor belt food delivery system, where customers pick food off the belt as it comes round.

Billy Walters, YO! Sushi IT manager, highlighted the cost-saving benefits as the main reason for picking an IP telephony solution.

"The on-going costs of the line rental and telephony maintenance were becoming a significant overhead to the business and as we had plans to double the number of outlets within two years this was an appropriate time to review our overall telecommunications strategy," he said.

YO! Sushi was created ten years ago by entrepreneur and former Dragon's Den star Simon Woodroffe, who sold his controlling interest in 2003.

As well as the conveyor belts, the restaurants feature other novelties like robot drinks trolleys and self heating plates.
